Introducing the Gigaton
Introducing The Gigaton
Thank you for signing up for The Gigaton! It's great to hear from you. 🤩 We are Stanford GSB MBA students who are just as concerned as you are about the climate crisis. In case you'd like a shot of existential dread, the recent IPCC report paints a bleak picture of what the world might look like in our generation and children's generation.
But our goal isn't to deliver gloomy news to you. Our vision is that this newsletter inspires you all to use the 80,000+ hours in your career to make a difference to help the world reverse climate change. Whether you have years of experience in the space, are pivoting and are lost, or just want to have a stronger sustainability mindset as you continue to do other jobs, this newsletter is for you. Given the scale of change needed, everyone must play a role in the transition. 💪
We will identify the most promising climate solutions based on quantified carbon emission potential (hence "The Gigaton" 😉) by Project Drawdown and tell you what you need to know, where you can work, and who you should be listening to. Consider this your Spark Notes for getting up to speed — we'll do the heavy lifting for you.
Your inbox is no doubt full of e-mails from clubs, consulting/banking recruiting events, and homework reminders. But here's how this newsletter will be different:
We commit to:
Focus on the most effective climate solutions, quantified by carbon emission impact and validated by scientists and researchers
Identify key companies that work across the value chain of each solution
Be real with you on the challenges in the space (and for hopeful entrepreneurs, to identify whitespace)
Fact check each article with professors and researchers
Until next time,
Your climate team 💚♻️
